Found at the point where Tenmile Creek leaves Tenmile Lake, lies Lakeside, Oregon. According to the U.S. Census, this tiny town’s population is only around 1,700, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have plenty to offer. Its location near a number of attractions makes it a popular spot for tourism, in addition to a great place to call home. Although it is small, Lakeside has a full range of government services and a host of amenities that make living here very convenient.
Shopping and Dining

When it’s time to perform household repairs, those in Lakeside head to Hennick’s Hardware to purchase lumber, building materials, garden tools and plumbing supplies. Tourists prefer visiting stores such as Cliff’s Hidden Treasures, which specializes in novelties such as rugs and wall hangings, or Usrey’s Rock Bin, a shop where you can find some of the most unique rocks and beads in the area.
Lakeshore Lodge sits directly on Tenmile Lake, and is not only a hotspot for tourism, but for locals who go there to enjoy scrumptious steak and seafood in a peaceful and beautiful setting. Up the Creek Tavern is a favorite watering hole that also serves a full menu of items that include sandwiches, burgers, shrimp and seafood.
Parks and Recreation
Part of the reason why Lakeside attracts so many tourists is due to its location. Not only does it contain 42 miles of shoreline, but it is also near the Oregon Dunes Recreation Area. These dunes are the most expansive coastal sand dunes in North America, and are an attraction in themselves. The area surrounding the dunes is also a popular spot for horseback riding, hiking and off-roading. Just one mile to the west lies the Pacific Ocean, where residents of Lakeside real estate can enjoy swimming, building sand castles, beach combing, fishing and a host of water sports.
Living
Despite being a tourist destination, Sperling’s Best Places reports that the cost of living in Lakeside is 2.5% lower than the national average. That’s good news for anyone interested in Lakeside real estate as it means homes here are very affordable. The average commute time is also lower than average, which means residents can spend more time each day enjoying Lakeside‘s scenic beauty. Schools, Health, and Transportation
Residents of Lakeside real estate send their children to one of the many schools operated by the Coos Bay Public School District. One of the things this school district focuses on is fine and performing arts, and uses input from the public to develop its five-year plan for instruction. Nearby private school include Kingsview Christian School, which admits students in Pre-K through grade 12 which offers a variety of athletic opportunities in volleyball, soccer, cross country and basketball for both boys and girls.
Several hospitals and medical facilities are located within a 30-minute drive of Lakeside. The one most often visited by residents of Lakeside real estate is Lower Umpqua Hospital and Health District, which provides critical care and also houses several specialty clinics. This hospital is located approximately 9 miles away in Reedsport. Situated 14 miles away in North Bend, Bay Area Hospital also contains a bariatric center, joint and spine center and cancer care center.
The main route through Lakeside is U.S. Highway 101, better known as the Pacific Coast Highway. As such, it is the perfect location from which to embark on a trip up and down the coast anywhere between the Mexican and Canadian borders. It’s also an ideal location for air travel, as it is home to the Lakeside Municipal Airport, which is open to the public and handles local flights. Those who wish to travel outside the region may visit the Portland International Airport located approximately three hours away.
